Each year, the World Soundtrack Academy (an initiative of Film Fest Gent) organises a composition contest for young international film composers. Young talents have the chance to show their skills as a film music composer by writing a symphonic score for a selected film or TV excerpt. The winner will be presented with the Sabam Award for the Best Original Composition by a Young Composer, worth € 2.500.
The jury will choose three finalists, who will see their composition being performed during the World Soundtrack Awards ceremony by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Maestro Dirk Brossé. The finalists are invited to attend the music projects of Film Fest Gent during which they can participate in different activities, such as the annual film music seminar, the World Soundtrack Awards dinner, the film music industry day and the WSA press conference and meet & greet. During the music programme, the finalists have the chance to meet interesting professionals from the international film music industry.
